Southampton vs Birmingham Predictions

Take Southampton to continue their recent winning form at home to Birmingham on Saturday. Tonda Eckert’s side have won their last two games at St. Mary’s Stadium and should be too strong for Chris Davies’ visitors.

Birmingham are six places above Southampton in the league table, but just four points separate the two sides. These teams were separated by two divisions last season, with Birmingham promoted from League One and Southampton relegated from the Premier League.

Southampton have been a potent attacking force this season, scoring three or more goals in three of their last four Championship games. They have found the net in seven of their last eight league matches, including a 5-1 win over Charlton two weeks ago.

They have been impressive defensively at home this season, conceding just seven goals in eight Championship games – an average of 0.88 goals per game.

Birmingham are in a rut on the road, having failed to win seven of their last eight Championship away games. They have now gone three away games without victory.

The visitors have been disappointing in front of goal away from home this season, scoring just six goals in nine games – an average of 0.67 goals a game.

They have looked vulnerable at the back. Birmingham have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four Championship games and have conceded on each of their last three road trips.

Southampton to win 1-0 at home looks a decent correct-score option. Four of Birmingham’s six Championship reverses this season have been by a single goal and they could be heading for another narrow defeat here.
