Southampton vs Inter Milan Predictions

Southampton suffered a deserved defeat on Sunday as Chelsea visited St. Mary’s Stadium and came away with a 2-0 win under their belts. This ended Southampton’s unbeaten season on home turf, and it couldn’t have come at a worse time with a clash against Inter Milan coming up.

These two sides met a few weeks ago at the San Siro, and despite Southampton completely dominating the out of form Italians they went home empty handed when Inter Milan got an undeserved 1-0 win from the game. This gave Inter Milan their first points in the Europa League this season and saw Southampton drop down to 2nd below Sparta Prague.

With Southampton now on home turf against Inter they will feel more confident of getting a result. The Saints have won five of their last six home games in all competitions and have only conceded three goals in the process.

Whilst their defence has been doing a stellar job it’s been all about Charlie Austin at the other end of the pitch. The striker has seven goals in all competitions this season, with two of those coming in the Europa League. Backing him to find the back of the net at 6/5 looks a very good option.

Inter Milan’s dreadful season continued on Sunday as Sampdoria beat them 1-0 to make it five defeats, one draw, and three wins in their last nine outings in all competitions. Their result against Southampton did kick them on to start getting results at the San Siro, but their away form hasn’t improved at all.

Their weekend defeat made it four losses on the bounce for them away from home, with Sparta Prague, Roma, Atalanta, and Sampdoria all getting results in their back yards. This leaves them 11th in Serie A and bottom of their Europa League group. Their weekend defeat has led to the sacking of manager Frank de Boer after just 85 days in charge of the club, meaning youth team manager Stefano Vecchi will take charge for this one.

I do expect Southampton to bounce back from the weekend with a positive result on Thursday. They will be keen to get back to their solid defensive ways as well, and considering Inter Milan have only scored three in their last four away days, I think odds of 13/8 for Southampton to Win to Nil offer a lot of value. I’m going for a 2-0 correct score prediction at 13/2 as well.
