      Spezia vs Alessandria Predictions

The English FA Cup is famous for its upsets and minnows making runs. The Coppa Italia is not normally that type of competition. However, on Monday night, the competition will play host to an historic semi-final.

Spezia would normally be the biggest story of the Coppa Italia at this stage. They are playing in their first quarter-final since World War II. They’re a Serie B regular and in fact have shown very little to no sign of progressing through the standings. They’re locked into the mid-table, well away from the promotion discussion.

Victory over Roma on penalties in the nation’s capital earned them the right to compete in this quarter-final. It was a terrific defensive display and they upset last season’s Serie A runners-up. They probably wouldn’t have anticipated being favourites to reach a semi-final on that day.

They’ve been a handed a home draw against third tier Alessandria. A team that has put together a simply remarkable run through the competition. It started with a trip to Serie A Palermo in Round 4, where they picked up a terrific 3-2 victory and it carried on in the Round of 16 on a trip to Genoa where they secured a 2-1 decision.

It’s impressive and surprising that Alessandria have been able to score so effectively against quality teams. They’re not out and out attacking in terms of style, but neither do they sit back and purely aim to suffocate the game. It’ll be interesting to see how they approach a game where they’re actually less underdogs than previously.

      Three Reasons for Betting Tips

      1. Good odds on Spezia

Serie B isn’t a terrible standard of football and we’re getting Spezia playing at home at pretty good 4/5 odds.

      2. Strange game for Alessandria

They’re not quite playing the type of game that they might’ve expected entering a quarter-final. They’ve beaten two Serie A teams to get here and now they’re facing a mid-table Serie B opponent, still it’s a significant step up.

      3. Better teams eventually win

Both of these clubs have been in their fair share of upsets, but there’s rarely anything wrong with betting on the better team.
