Relegation candidates face-off

This is an extremely important match at the bottom and it could be one that has a huge say in who stays up and who goes down come the end of the season – a cliche but it really is a six-pointer here.

The home side are suffering in their second season of top-flight football and their inability to score crucial goals has hindered them time and time again. They managed to score just 31 Serie A goals, a league-low and avoided the drop by just a single point. Not much has changed this season as they are, once again the lowest scorers in the division yet have played more games than anyone else. They gift their opponents far too many good opportunities to get a shot on goal and until they rectify this, they will always be fighting for their lives.

Bahia were obliterated by defending champions Flamengo last weekend, but prior to that match, they had put in a number of decent performances. That heavy defeat to Flamengo puts them in a precarious spot in the league table and they are now well within the survival race. The visitors come into this one without scoring a goal in any of their last three away games, largely due to the fact they don’t have the personnel to inject any urgency or to carry the ball into the opponents half and as a result, they don’t create many opportunities.

A loss would be disastrous for both of these sides and so avoiding defeat will be the first priority for both teams. Neither team plays progressive football and so we think the likelihood of both teams scoring is extremely low. We don’t think both teams will find the back of the net in such a tense game. However, Bahia does have the quality and could nick this with a late goal.
