Sporting Lisbon and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Sporting Lisbon have won six of their last 11 UEFA competition matches at home while Club Brugge have lost five of their seven UEFA competition away matches against Portuguese sides. Back Sporting to extend their winning run at home to five games but with both teams scoring again. BTTS has landed in five of their last eight at home, including both Champions League wins over Marseille and Kairat.

Sporting Lisbon 2-1

Reason for tip

Sporting have scored multiple goals in six of their last seven home games, including two in wins over Alverca and Marseille. They can secure a 2-1 win over Club Brugge, who have scored in four of their last six away games – albeit usually only once per game – only failing to register against Anderlecht and Bayern Munich.

Francisco Trincao To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Francisco Trincao scored two in Sporting’s win last weekend and also bagged a brace against Kairat in a home Champions League game earlier this season. He plays in a central attacking position and could be first in line for any free-kicks on the edge of the box.

Sporting Lisbon vs Club Brugge Predictions

  • Sporting Lisbon have won six of their last 11 UEFA competition matches at home
  • Club Brugge have lost five of their seven UEFA competition away matches against Portuguese sides
  • Sporting have won their last four home games with both teams scoring in two

Sporting can be formidible at home

Sporting Lisbon are capable of collecting all three Champions League points when they host Club Brugge at the Estádio José Alvalade on Wednesday. Rui Borges’ men are unbeaten in their last nine matches, including a 2-1 league phase win over Marseille last month.

Portuguese clubs have traditionally been much more formidable at home and that certainly goes for this Sporting side, who have taken maximum points from two European clashes on their turf and only one point from two away trips.

Defensively, they have tightened up of late with clean sheets against Alverca and Tondela in the league plus a backs-to-the-wall 1-1 draw away to Juventus. But Club Brugge are unlikely to sit deep and offer nothing in response, as their recent 3-3 draw with Barcelona showed them at their counter-attacking best.

Brugge were beaten by Anderlecht

Nicky Hayen’s side reached the round of 16 in last year’s competition after sneaking into 24th place in the league phase and are probably still a bit more comfortable at this level than Sporting.

But they are not in great form overall after a recent 1-0 reverse to Anderlecht and are probably best swerved at this point in time. Back Sporting to win with both teams to score on Wednesday because of their winning momentum and impressive hoem record in European competition.

The Belgians have lost four of their last five UEFA competition matches against Portuguese opposition, underlining their struggles in this type of fixture.
