Sporting Lisbon vs Maritimo Predictions
- Sporting have not lost a home league game for 20 months (W 23, D 6 of 29 games).
- Sporting Lisbon have not scored more than once in each of their last four games (all competitions).
- Maritimo have lost on their last eight league visits to the Alvalade.
Lions lacking appetite for goals without Pote
Sporting earned an important win over a tricky opponent at the weekend when they saw off Estoril 1-0 on the road.
Ruben Amorim’s side needed to dig deep for that after a midweek humiliation at the hands of Ajax, but still required a penalty from right wing-back Pedro Porro to get the points.
They haven’t scored multiple goals in a game in the last month and appear to be really missing last season’s leading scorer Pote.
He won’t be back for the visit of a Maritimo side that clung on for a 0-0 draw at Famalicao without ever looking like scoring.
Julio Velázquez’s side rarely venture forward on their travels and have posted a combined xG of a mere 1.5 through their first three league road games.
Os Verde-Rubros won’t be looking forward to their trip to Portugal’s capital anyway, as they have lost their last eight league visits to the Alvalade – five of them by more than one goal.
But Sporting are misfiring at the moment, particularly centre-forward Paulinho who has scored one goal from 17 shots in six games, so our preferred bet here is for the match to feature less than three goals.
That would cover the possibility of a 2-0 home win, but our preferred correct score bet is for the Lions to claim the points by the minimum margin.
