Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in St Johnstone’s last four competitive games but the Premiership side have gone 11 games without a clean sheet and Morton should be able to get on the scoresheet against their top flight hosts, so both teams to score appeals.

St Johnstone 3-1

Reason for tip

There is a gulf in class here and Saints should be able to win fairly comfortably. Morton have scored in five of their last six trips and can register a consolation strike in a 3-1 defeat.

St Johnstone vs Morton Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in St Johnstone’s last four competitive games.
  • The hosts have gone 11 competitive games without a clean sheet.
  • Both teams have scored in five of Morton’s last six away games.

Saints looking for home boost

St Johnstone failed to win any of their final nine home games at the end of last season and will be looking to get the new season up and running by winning their first assignment at McDiarmid Park.

Saints opened the season with a 2-1 win at Brechin in the League Cup and should fancy their chances against Championship side Morton, but there isn’t a great deal of value in going for a home win here and instead both teams to score looks a better starting point.

Clean sheets have been an issue for Saints as they have conceded in each of their last 11 competitive outings, and each of their last nine at home.

Morton were well beaten at League Two East Fife in their League Cup opener, going down 4-0, but they then overcame Brechin 1-0 and should be up for the test of facing Premiership opposition.

The Championship club are generally good for a goal on the road and both teams have scored in five of their last six away games.

Ultimately, St Johnstone’s superior quality should tell here even if they don’t name their strongest possible XI and a 3-1 home win is the correct score prediction.
