Patchy St Louis should ease past struggling Colorado Rapids

This season’s MLS expansion side St Louis City are among the patchiest in the division with defeats often following victories but they should have few issues against Western Conference basement boys Colorado Rapids.

In the opening weeks of the 2023 season, St Louis defied all expectations to win their first five matches of the season but that was swiftly followed by a run of four losses in six games.

They then bounced back with three wins on the spin before losing three out of their next four and it is fair to say it has been a rollercoaster maiden campaign.

Last time out, however, they got back on track with a 2-1 win away to playoff-chasing San Jose Earthquakes and another win could follow when they welcome Colorado to CityPark.

The Rapids really have been hopeless this year, picking up only two wins from their 19 matches and scoring a paltry 14 goals.

They have not scored since the first day of June, drawing blanks in their last three assignments against San Jose, Orlando and LA Galaxy and a St Louis win to nil looks a wise bet.

But while they should keep Colorado out at the back, St Louis are also the fiercest team going forwards in the Eastern Conference, averaging nearly two goals per game.

A 3-0 win therefore looks a decent correct score selection.
