Reason For Stoke City vs Fulham Predictions

Stoke may have got their first win of the season, but their problems remain. The Potters are still bottom of the table ahead of this clash with Fulham – a side who are aiming for promotion this term. The visitors have certainly readjusted to life in the second tier better than Stoke, as the Potters have won just four of their last 34 Championship games. Can they add to that dismal tally with a victory against Fulham this week?

The hosts pulled off a 2-1 victory over Swansea last time out, which was a major shock after Stoke’s torrid start. That win allowed manager Nathan Jones to go in for some of his critics in the media, but his side remain bottom with a horrible record in this division. After all, this is a side which was playing in the Premier League in 2018, while they were being talked up for a playoff push a couple of months ago. One win in 11 is hardly an achievement for the Potters.

That one win isn’t likely to kick off a major turnaround, given that Stoke are clashing with Fulham this weekend. The visitors to the bet365 have a much better return from their campaign back in the second tier. The Cottagers come here just a point shy of the playoffs and only three off top spot. Manager Scott Parker has got his side on a six-game unbeaten run as he pushes them to deliver promotion.

Fulham’s good form has made them favourites for this trip, as has Stoke’s abysmal return. The Potters have lost eight times in 11 games this season, while they have been beaten in five of their six matches at the bet365 Stadium. The hosts are on a four-game losing streak at their own stadium, which is something Fulham are hoping to extend.

The visitors have scored in 91% of their games this season, with an average of 1.8 goals per game. They create around 15 chances per game, while this Stoke side have conceded from 18% of the shots they’ve faced so far this term. That’s seen them concede twice in eight of their 11 league games this season. The Potters have shipped two goals or more in eight of their last nine home games in the league. That has us backing Fulham to score over 1.5 goals, which they’ve already done in two of their three meetings with bottom four sides.

With Stoke losing four of their last five home games, we are backing a 2-1 victory for Fulham here, with 75% of the Potters’ home defeats this term coming by a single goal.
