Stuttgart to Win

Reason for tip

Ordinarily Bayer Leverkusen would be expected to win this game – but Stuttgart are clearly the team in greater need. VfB desperately need the points as they battle against the drop and Bayer will be prioritising the second leg of their Europa League tie with Roma, so back the hosts to claim a vital three points.

Stuttgart 2-1

Reason for tip

Stuttgart have conceded in each of their last nine Bundesliga games and their last three wins have all been by one-goal margins. We’re expecting a win for the hosts but it could still be a close contest and a 2-1 win for VfB appeals.

Serhou Guirassy To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy has two goals an an assist in his last three games and he looks a good contender for a goal against Bayer.

Stuttgart vs Bayer Leverkusen Predictions

  • Leverkusen will be prioritising their European bid.
  • Stuttgart sit two points adrift of safety.
  • VfB beat Borussia Monchengladbach in their last home league game.

Timing may be right for Stuttgart

Stuttgart go into the latest round of Bundesliga fixtures in the relegation play-off place but they may be able to give their survival chances a huge boost by downing Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer take on Roma next week in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie and they trail 1-0 after a first leg loss in Rome. It would be no surprise to see manager Xabi Alonso make plenty of changes for this trip as he focuses on the visit of the Serie A side, and that provides Stuttgart with an ideal opportunity.

The visitors can probably finish no higher than sixth, which is where they sit ahead of Sunday’s game, but VfB are in desperate need of points as they sit two points adrift of safety and only a superior goal difference separates them from the automatic relegation places.

Stuttgart have managed to pick up a few results lately and they overcame Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1 in their last home game, and they can back that up by beating this distracted and potentially much-changed Leverkusen outfit on Sunday.

The hosts have gone six games without a clean sheet and each of their last three wins have been by one-goal margins, so a 2-1 win for Stuttgart is the correct score prediction. Guinea forward Serhou Guirassy scored in the loss to Hertha last time out and has two goals and one assists in his last three outings, so back the Stuttgart forward to grab a goal in this Bundesliga clash.
