Sunderland vs Everton Predictions

Sunderland pulled off a stunning comeback at the Stadium of Light on Saturday as they came from behind twice against Chelsea to beat them 3-2. The match had everything: A goal of the season contender, a Jermain Defoe winner, and a red card for the outgoing Chelsea captain. But the drama didn’t matter to Sunderland fans, what mattered was the fact that this result put them just one victory away from Premier League safety.

They come into the penultimate game of the season a point clear of the relegation zone and with a game in hand, so a win against either Everton or Watford would secure their top flight status for another season.

Sunderland have struggled to win though, despite their improvements. They have only managed three wins from their last 15 outings in the Premier League, but the six draws from their last nine matches has kept that points tally creeping upwards.

Everton have had a dismal season. They sit down in 12th position in the Premier League and saw their last remaining shred of hope snatched away at Wembley as Manchester United beat them 2-1 to reach the FA Cup Final.

This defeat was one of five that Everton have incurred in their last nine matches in all competitions, with just one of the remaining four matches ending in an Everton victory.

It could be the end for Roberto Martinez, and defeats in the final two games against two relegation candidates would surely be the final nail in his coffin.

Sunderland’s three goal haul against Chelsea made it three out of six home matches that have ended with at least three goals scored. The hosts have netted seven in these three games, and Everton come into this match having conceded ten goals in their last four matches.

This has resulted in some high scoring matches, with each of these four games seeing more than two goals scored. This makes odds of 7/10 for Over 2.5 Goals look good value, and I’m going for a 2-1 win for Sunderland at 7/1 as well.
