      Swansea vs Sunderland Predictions

Swansea just can’t seem to catch a break at the moment. They enjoyed a bright start to the season but have rapidly tailed off and found themselves in real trouble. Even the departure of manager Garry Monk couldn’t afford them a new lease of life.

They have now won just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions, with their seven losses during this period including a humiliating 3-2 loss to Oxford United on Sunday.

A loss to lower league opposition after their dreadful run of form will have destroyed their confidence, but a Premier League win on Wednesday would pick them up off the floor.

They need a win too. They sit in 17th position in the Premier League with just two points separating them from the relegation zone.

Sunderland are in a slightly worse position than their opponents. They are in 19th position with a four point gulf to make up between them and Swansea, who are on the brink of safety.

A 3-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend afforded Sunderland some hope for escaping the mess that they’re in, and a 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Arsenal probably won’t have even registered as they battle for survival.

This win over Aston Villa brought an end to Sunderland’s five match losing streak in the Premier League, but more importantly it will have given them hope.

New Swansea manager Alan Curtis seems to have egged his team on to start scoring goals again. They had scored just seven goals in 11 games during their worst spell of form, but they have managed five in their last five now including matches against Manchester City and Manchester United.

Sunderland’s problem has always been defensively, and up front they have managed to bag a decent amount of goals. They have netted five in their last four, but conceded nine at the other end.

With this combination of attacking quality and defensive vulnerability and both teams absolute necessity for three points I think this could be a high scoring match. Odds of 23/20 for Over 2.5 Goals look really good value, and I’m also going for a 2-2 draw at 20/1.
