Tottenham Hotspur and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Brentford are without seven players for this trip and they lost nine of their visits to the top 11 last season, including a 3-2 defeat at Spurs. The hosts have conceded in nine of their previous 10 home victories, so back a high-scoring home win.

Tottenham Hotspur 2-1

Reason for tip

Tottenham recorded no fewer than six 2-1 victories at home last term, with that scoreline landing in close to a third of their home league games. Brentford lost by a single goal in nine of their trips last season, while Spurs picked up another 2-1 win in midweek.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Brentford Predictions

  • Brentford lost nine of their visits to the top 11 last season
  • The Bees have lost both league away games this term
  • Tottenham have conceded in nine of their last 10 home wins

Tottenham secure key victory

Ange Postecoglou risked embarrassment in midweek after boasting about his previous silverware-laden second seasons. His team were 1-0 down to Coventry in the Carabao Cup with minutes to go, but a late turnaround saw them pick up a 2-1 victory off the back of a North London derby defeat.

Spurs haven’t had the easiest start to the season and Postecoglou’s prickly press conferences alongside his touchline demeanour have seen the Australian’s odds to depart slashed. There’s clear pressure on Tottenham, but this weekend pits them against a Brentford side who are dealing with a considerable injury list.

Bees have lost their sting

Brentford have enjoyed a solid start to the campaign despite heading to City and Liverpool in their opening two trips. However, Thomas Frank has lost some important names having gone into the campaign with some important absentees. Yoane Wissa has joined Thiago on the sidelines, limiting their attacking options in the aftermath of Ivan Toney’s deadline day departure.

Brentford have also lost Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Mathias Jenson ahead of this game, which could prove costly. Had they been close to full strength the Bees would have looked like a real threat to the hosts, but they’re weakened throughout the side and it’s hard to see them keeping up with a Spurs side who still have plenty of talent despite their struggles.

Given how aggressive Tottenham are going forward, Brentford’s limited options going forward offer the hosts a big advantage. If this is another back-and-forth game for the hosts, those risks should be limited by the visitors’ lack of depth in the final third.

More away woes for Brentford

It’s not a surprise that Brentford have lost in visits to the Etihad and Anfield this season, but that’s continued a poor trend from last term. The Bees lost nine of their trips to the top 11 sides in the league, including a 3-2 loss at Tottenham.

Brentford will still be attack-minded in this trip but that could cost them, as they’re lacking players in the final third to finish their chances. Tottenham may have suffered their second defeat of the campaign last weekend but they have the quality to edge this contest.

However, Spurs’ style tends to see them struggle at the back. They’ve conceded in nine of their last 10 home wins and they have produced only three home clean sheets in the Premier League since Postecoglou took charge. As a result, back Spurs to win and concede once again.
