Union can grind past Wolfsburg at home

Union Berlin should be backed to get a home win over Wolfsburg on Saturday, with the visitors having lost five of their last seven away games in the Bundesliga.

They are 11th in the league, six places and 11 points above Wolfsburg, but both teams have lost more games than they have won this season. Union Berlin have eight wins and 13 losses, while Wolfsburg have won five and lost 18.

Wolfsburg lost 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend and could not break their losing run. Dzenan Pejcinovic netted for Wolfsburg, who conceded the opening goal for the sixth game running. They have now lost 13 of the 20 games this season in which they’ve shipped the first goal (65%). They created goalscoring chances and hit the woodwork, but didn’t have the best of luck.

Wolfsburg are out of form, and backing their opponents during their current run of nine defeats in 11 Bundesliga games would have resulted in a profit of 9.47 units.

Their recent results do not inspire confidence. Nine of their last 11 Bundesliga matches have ended in defeat, and they have not won any of their last seven away games. They have now sustained three successive reverses.

Wolfsburg have not been able to keep their opponents at bay this term, with no team having a worse defensive record in the Bundesliga than theirs this season. They have failed to keep a clean sheet in 28 of their last 29 league games.

A narrow 1-0 success for Union Berlin looks the most likely outcome. At least one of the sides has failed to score in three of the last four Bundesliga head-to-heads between these teams, and Union’s last three wins have all been by a single goal.
