Valencia vs Espanyol Predictions
- Valencia are unbeaten in their last nine matches, winning six during that run.
- Espanyol have not managed a single away win in La Liga this season, losing on six of their nine road trips to date.
- Only Real Madrid and Real Betis have outscored Valencia in La Liga this term.
Espanyol are perfect visitors for in-form Valencia
Jose Bordalas’ Valencia are unbeaten in nine league and cup games, winning six of those matches, including their last five on the spin. In fact, the only teams to have even earned draws against Bordalas’ men since October are Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad; the sides currently placed fourth, fifth, and sixth in the table.
Valencia now sit just two points from a UEFA Champions League berth, in a competitive and congested Spanish top-flight table. Their home record is blighted by just one loss, which came to Real Madrid back in September.
Espanyol, who are yet to win away from home in La Liga all campaign, represent the ideal opponents for Valencia, as they seek to round off a tumultuous calendar year on a positive note. Although the Barcelona-based side have won five of their last nine matches, two of those came against lowly opposition in the Copa Del Rey, and Vincente Moreno’s team have created worse expected goals tallies than their opponents in each of their last nine La Liga fixtures.
Back goal-happy Valencia to end 2021 on a high
With Espanyol toiling on the road this season and struggling to carve out clear-cut chances of late, we’re backing the likes of Goncalo Guedes and Carlos Soler, who netted two apiece in Valencia’s last league outing, to enjoy a fruitful New Year’s Eve.
While Valencia to win looks a strong play, backing over 2.5 match goals could allow punters to secure some additional value; Valencia’s last five games have all featured three or more goals, as have four of Espanyol’s last five.
Only Real Madrid and Real Betis have outscored Valencia in La Liga this term, so backing them to win an entertaining clash looks prudent. A 3-1 home win, meanwhile, looks a worthwhile correct score punt.
