Venezia vs Cagliari Predictions

• Both teams have scored in each of Venezia’s last five games, as well as in Cagliari’s last three.

Relegation battle goes to the wire

While Venezia are already relegated from Serie A, with their only final-day goal being to avoid the ignominy of finishing bottom of the table, Cagliari must win in the floating city to have any chance of staying in the Italian top-flight, and will need a favour from Salernitana’s opponents Udinese even if they do clinch a huge victory.

The Sardinians, however, have been in dreadful form, winning just one of their last 10 games, losing eight. Caligari are winless in their last four on the road, though a last-gasp equaliser at Salernitana on their last away trip means Alessandro Agostini’s men retain a chance of survival. They will need to improve their dire defensive record, however; Cagliari have conceded the fourth-most goals in Serie A (68), have one clean sheet since November 30th, and have seen goals at both ends in their last three.

Venezia, meanwhile, have lost 10 of their last 12 games during a nightmare run, though they have claimed four points from their last two games; shocking Bologna in a thrilling 4-3 victory before claiming a draw at Roma despite their relegation being confirmed last week. Both teams have scored in each of their last five matches, in which Venezia have scored eight goals and shipped 11, but the hosts’ last Serie A shutout came on November 21st.

Goals at both ends likely – can Cagliari do their bit?

Considering the dire defensive form of both outfits – only Salernitana and Empoli have conceded more Serie A goals than the pair this term, as well as the visitors’ desperate need for a victory, both teams to score in an end-to-end encounter looks likely.

Can Cagliari get the win they need to have a shot at salvation? Their recent form is every bit as bad as Venezia’s, and they’ve not won either of their two games since Agostini replaced Walter Mazzarri. A repeat of October’s 1-1 draw between the sides therefore makes for a decent correct score prediction – and would condemn Cagliari to Serie B for the first time since 2015-16.
