Venezia vs Verona Predictions

  • Verona have lost two of their last 12 league games, though they’ve failed to beat bottom six opposition in both of their last two.
  • Verona have not won away from home in Serie A this season, drawing four of seven on the road.
  • Venezia’s three home league defeats have come against champions Inter, and lowly Salernitana and Spezia. They’ve enjoyed results against the likes of Fiorentina, Roma, and Torino.

Verona’s Travel Sickness Continues

For all that Verona have impressed since Igor Tudor took charge, losing just twice in their last 12 Serie A outings and netting the sixth-most goals in Serie A, they have still yet to win on the road under him. Losing at lowly Sampdoria last weekend means they’ve now drawn four and lost three on their travels this term.

Verona should then have seen off Cagliari in midweek, after creating almost two expected goals, but were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw. Verona have drawn three of their last six, and their wretched away record includes frustrating results against many of Serie A’s strugglers, including Salternitana, Genoa and Sampdoria.

Venezia have lost their last two without scoring, although they couldn’t have asked for tougher opponents than Inter and Atalanta. Venezia’s home record, while sullied by defeats to Salternitana and Spezia, includes unlikely wins over Fiorentina and Roma. The floating City may not be the kindest destination for a side which doesn’t travel well.

Draw the Safest Play?

With Venezia averaging the second-lowest share of possession in Serie A, Verona should dictate the tempo, but their frustrating away record, coupled with Venezia’s tendency to snatch positive results in difficult home games, may mean there is value in backing the draw.

In terms of a correct score prediction, Verona’s 0-0 draw last time out was the first time they’d failed to score since matchday three, so a 1-1 stalemate seems a solid punt.
