Vikingur Olafsvik vs Throttur Reykjavik Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

These two newly promoted teams have had largely contrasting starts to life in the Iceland Urvalsdeild this season after winning promotion last season.

Last year’s 1. deild champions Vikingur Olafsvik began their campaign with three wins and a draw from their opening four matches before finally succumbing in a 5-1 defeat to Fjolnir. They were subsequently knocked out of the Iceland Cup on penalties and have since won one, drawn one, and lost one of their last three Urvalsdeild matches.

This puts them in a rather impressive 5th position in the Iceland Urvaldeild, and they are only two points adrift of a top three position with a game in hand on all of the top three. However, their performances lately have dropped and the gap between them and the relegation zone isn’t overly comfortable yet. The first of the drop spots is seven points below them, but there is a lot of the season still to be played.

Throttur Reykjavik are the team occupying that relegation spot, with them being around and about the same position as predictions suggested they would be after their promotion winning campaign last season.

However, they are only behind IA Akranes on goal difference, and a win on Tuesday could take them up to 9th. The good news is that their performances have started to improve recently.

Throttur Reykjavik began their Urvalsdeild campaign with three defeats, a draw, and a win from their opening five matches, but two Iceland Cup successes will have boosted their confidence significantly. They will now be hoping they can carry that form over into the league season.

A 1-0 victory at IA at the start of June showed promise, but they returned to their old ways with a 5-0 thrashing at home to Fjolnir last time out. They are facing a Vikingur Olafsvik side who have won all three of their home matches in the Urvalsdeild too.

This excellent home form and Vikingur Olafsvik’s general high confidence in comparison to their opponents is making me look towards a comfortable win for the hosts.
