Villarreal to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Villarreal have won two of their last three home league games, scoring three goals on each occasion. The goals have not been flowing in Mallorca’s recent away games, but they have faced teams like Almeria and Real Madrid who are very much better defensively than Villarreal.

Villarreal 2-1

Reason for tip

Villarreal must utilise home advantage to pull clear of the drop zone and this looks like an ideal fixture for them to do that. Real Mallorca have lost four of their last five away La Liga matches and failed to score each time, but could net in a losing cause this time.

Dani Parejo To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Dani Parejo hit the crossbar with a free-kick at Las Palmas last week and scored a penalty in Villarreal’s recent 3-2 home win over Celta Vigo. The set-piece specialist looks good value to score against a Mallorca side that have lost four of their last five away league games.

Yellow Submarines boss under pressure

The pressure is on Villarreal coach Marcelino after last weekend’s sorry 3-0 loss to Las Palmas, but his side should bounce back against one of the poorest travelling teams in La Liga – Real Mallorca.

Despite being currently locked together on 19 points, there is little doubt as to which team comes into this in better form with Mallorca having taken more than double Villareal’s points tally across the last five games.

Javier Aguirre’s men, however, have done all of their heavy lifting at the San Moix and arrive on the mainland with a record of four defeats and just one draw from their last five away trips.

Mallorca struggling on the road

They also tasted defeat on their own turf in midweek in the Copa del Rey and could face an opponent determined to erase the bad feeling from last weekend’s result.

Villarreal have been scoring goals at home, hitting three in two of their last three games at the Ceramica. Top scorer Gerard Moreno is back after injury and set-piece specialist Dani Parejo always hits a mean dead ball.

The Yellow Submarines can come out on top in this encounter if they get in front as Mallorca’s road record does not inspire hopes for any comeback. But the visitors should get chances to score against the team with the joint-worst defensive record in La Liga, so over 2.5 goals looks likely here as well.
