- Erling Haaland has scored 14 goals in 10 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions this season
Citizens to sink Yellow Submarine on their travels
Manchester City will look to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions on Tuesday when they travel to the Estadio de la Ceramica to take on Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
City moved to the top of the Premier for a brief moment on Saturday after their 2-0 win over Everton and they are unbeaten in the Champions League in two matches.
While the Yellow Submarine have been one of the leading teams in La Liga this season after only two defeats in nine matches, they have only picked up one point in the Champions League.
They started their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham and have since drawn 2-2 with Juventus. That draw against the Italian giants was the start of a three-match winless run and City should have too much quality for their hosts.
Hosts can have some success
For all of their success in recent years, Manchester City have started to struggle on the road in Europe.
The Citizens have failed to win any of their last five away matches in the Champions League, but they have restored some confidence with successive wins to nil in the Premier League.
Villarreal have only failed to score in two of their 11 games in all competitions, and they have scored 14 in six matches in front of their own fans this season.
City’s vulnerabilities at the back were on display when they drew 2-2 with Monaco in their last game in Europe and all signs point to the hosts finding the back of the net.
However, City have been a level above their rivals in recent months and they will take plenty of confidence from the fact that the hosts have not beaten any English team in any of their last eight European ties.
Haaland to continue rich vein of form
Erling Haaland scored a brace on Saturday to help City beat Everton 2-0, taking his tally to 11 in eight games in the Premier League.
The Norway international scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Israel during the international break and he has now scored 10 goals in his last five appearances for club and country.
Haaland has netted 36 goals in 32 Champions League group stage/league phase outings and he should be able to extend his incredible record in midweek.
