Villarreal aiming to cement Champions League bid at La Ceramica

Villarreal are usually good for the points at home but may face more difficulties on Friday against a Real Sociedad side that have lost just two of their last 17 matches in all competitions.

The Yellow Submarines have rediscovered some rhythm at La Ceramica with three straight home wins and seven victories in their last nine on their own patch. They even left Anoeta with all three points back in November. But the picture is far less convincing when you consider the Basques’ recent upturn.

No La Liga side has produced more BTTS fixtures this season — 23 of 28 — and that trend has only strengthened, with 12 of their last 13 league matches seeing both teams find the net. Their recent meetings with Villarreal tell the same story: a 3-2 at Anoeta in November and a 2-2 draw on their last trip to La Cerámica.
