Vitoria Guimaraes vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions
- Sporting have won 13 of their 16 league fixtures this season
- These sides have conceded just 28 goals between them across a combined 32 league fixtures
- Three of Sporting’s last five league fixtures have produced under 2.5 goals
Borges targets victory against former club
Sporting Lisbon lead the way in the Primeira Liga standings but their position at the top of the tree does not tell the whole story.
The capital club lost Ruben Amorim to Manchester United earlier this season and the team’s form collapsed under his successor Joao Pereira, who was dismissed after just six weeks in charge.
Sporting replaced him with Rui Borges, who departed Vitoria Guimaraes and signed a contract until June 2026.
Things are looking up again for Sporting, who won their first game under Borges 1-0 against Benfica and the new manager’s next assignment is his old side Guimaraes.
And given that Sporting have not been at their best for some time, this could be a close game.
Goals could be at a premium for Nacional and Sporting
Sporting have had to tighten up recently, recording successive clean sheets against Gil Vicente and Benfica, and they are on a four-game unbeaten run.
They should just about have enough to see off Guimaraes, who have been held to four successive draws in all competitions and lack the attacking firepower to win this home encounter.
Back Borges to get one over his former club with a low-scoring win for Sporting, while 1-0 looks like a decent correct score prediction for the visitors.
