Watford vs Chelsea Predictions
Watford followed up their return to winning ways last weekend with a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest to progress in the FA Cup on Saturday.
These are Watford’s first back to back victories since their excellent run of four wins on the trot ended in the middle of December.
Watford’s last five matches have seen them win three times though, with the other two being defeats. This is relatively good form for a team who were touted to be favourites for relegation.
Their 2-1 win over Newcastle last Saturday took them to 10th position in the Premier League, and they are only five points off Manchester United, who occupy a Europa League qualification position.
Watford are at least ahead of Chelsea, who remain down in 13th position thanks to their dreadful start to the season.
But FA Cup success on Sunday will have boosted their confidence a bit. They thrashed MK Dons 5-1 away from home to progress, with Oscar bagging a hat trick and Eden Hazard getting back among the goals.
This extended Guus Hiddink’s unbeaten start to his interim spell at Chelsea. They are now unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions, and have netted 21 times during this spell. The only problem seems to be actually securing victory as their defence continues to falter.
Chelsea have seen three or more goals scored in six of these nine matches, and with their leaky defence facing up against Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo I can see this being another goalfest.
The goalscoring form of Oscar and Diego Costa will be particularly pleasing to Chelsea fans too, so I’m not expecting the Watford defence to have an easy time of it either.
This makes odds of 5/4 for Over 2.5 Match Goals look incredibly good value for money, so I’m backing that along with a 2-1 Chelsea win at 17/2.
