Tip Reasoning

  • Reading have won their last two Championship away games and four of their last seven league road trips.
  • West Bromwich Albion have failed to win their last two Championship home games and four of their last five overall.

Baggies strikers still not at their best

West Brom got a vital win at Coventry City last Saturday and will hope to use that momentum to revive their flagging home form when Reading travel to The Hawthorns this weekend.

The Baggies were a bit fortunate to go 2-0 up against their west Midlands rivals as Cedric Kipre appeared to have handled in the build-up with Coventry pushing them hard in the second half in a game that could easily have finished as a draw.

And while Karlan Grant played well, Callum Robinson still looks some way off his clinical best in Albion’s attack and Grady Diangana is currently a shadow of his former brilliant best. The heavy odds-on price for them to win only their second game in six is quite prohibitive here and the value clearly lies elsewhere.

Rough-and-ready Reading won’t be bullied by Baggies

Reading come into this fixture after back-to-back away wins against Birmingham City and Swansea – two sides nowhere near Albion’s level right now. But Veljko Paunovic’s side did stun table-toppers Fulham on their own patch a few months ago and arrive with a record of only one defeat in their last five.

The Royals are a mature bunch with several players at the peak of their powers or ex-Premier League stars on the way down, so we don’t think they will be bullied by the Baggies here.

Some will see the Coventry win as a confidence-boosting result than can propel WBA to another win, but the form of two of their front three still looks iffy and we are keen to side with the away side to avoid defeat here. A 1-1 scoreline appeals in correct score betting as Albion have not conceded more than once in their last nine home league games while Reading have only shipped eight times in their last seven away trips.
