Reason For Wigan vs Bolton Predictions

  • Wigan have lost once at home in the league since October
  • Bolton have conceded the second most away goals in the top half of League One this season
  • Wigan won the reverse fixture 4-0

Wigan set for final promotion push

Wigan spent the international break at a training camp in Dubai and The Latics look set to hit the ground running as they get back to the job at hand. Wigan have nine games left and currently have a three-point cushion on third place MK Dons, Leam Richardson’s side will be keen to create a bit more breathing room as they head into the closing stages of the season. Wigan, who have lost only once at home in the league since October, welcome a Bolton side who have nothing to play for in the remainder of the season, to the DW on Saturday. Wigan can lean on the reverse fixture for encouragement ahead of Saturday’s game, Wigan ran out 4-0 winners when these sides met earlier in the season and are fancied to get the better of Bolton on Saturday.

Bolton likely to come up short in Lancashire derby

Ian Evatt’s side have nothing to play for now, with no realistic chance of breaking into the top six, there is a danger that The Trotters take their eye off the ball for the remainder of the season. Bolton have failed to score in their last two matches against sides that currently occupy a place in League One’s top six and have their work cut out as they travel to 2nd place Wigan at a ground they haven’t won at for over ten years.

I think Wigan will probably have too much for Bolton on Saturday and will likely run out winners in the latest instalment of this Lancashire derby. The 4-0 score line in the reverse fixture is ominous for the visitors and whilst I don’t think it will be quite that one-sided again I do think Bolton will have a hard time breaking down the hosts – in the correct score market I will take a chance on a 2-0 home victory.
