Tip Reasoning

  • Wigan have lost three of their last four home league games.
  • Oxford United are unbeaten in four league matches.
  • Oxford have taken seven points from their last three away games.

Oxford keeping pace

The visitors, Oxford United arrive at the DW Stadium off the back of a crazy FA Cup exit which saw them lose 4-3 to Bristol Rovers, after five extra-time goals. However, the Bulls are in sixth place in League One, where they finished last season, and are ready for another season-long battle among the top-six.

Their 0-0 draw at Ipswich was another encouraging result for a side who went into that game off the back of three successive wins. Oxford’s last game in League One, on the road, saw them defeat Burton 3-1 and they remain unbeaten through their last three league fixtures away from home.

Wigan meanwhile, are second with 22 points from the last 30 on offer. It has been three weeks since they were in League One action but return after wins in the EFL Trophy and FA Cup.

A 2-0 win over Burton in their last home league game ended a run of three successive 2-1 defeats at the DW Stadium for the Latics.

Oxford won both meetings between these sides last term, including a 2-1 victory over Wigan at this very venue last November, and that’s why I’m tipping an Oxford win or draw here. They could edge it but will at least clinch a 1-1 draw.
