Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in three of Wolfsburg’s last four league outings, as well as five of their six home matches this season. Half of Mainz’s away fixtures in all competitions have seen both teams net, while they have scored in all bar one of their last nine on the road.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Wolfsburg have scored exactly once in three of their last five home games, including a 1-1 stalemate with Augsburg. Mainz had a 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach in October, one of two occasions in their last six that they have conceded exactly twice.

Wolfsburg vs FSV Mainz 05 Predictions

  • Five of Wolfsburg’s six home league games this season have seen both teams net
  • Mainz have only failed to score in one of their last nine away games
  • Both teams have also netted in three of Wolfsburg’s last four Bundesliga outings

Can Wolfsburg keep going?

It is now four successive wins across all competitions for Wolfsburg, who finally look like they have turned the corner at home, thanks to wins over Union Berlin (1-0) and Hoffenheim (3-0).

The latter of those games was in the cup, but the former was in the league, as the Wolves kept their first clean sheet at the Volkswagen Arena of the campaign.

The previous five outings in the top flight there had seen both teams score, as have three of their last four Bundesliga fixtures, where Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have netted in all bar one of their dozen matches.

Mainz put their away record to the test

The hosts will not find things easy against a Mainz side who are yet to lose on the road in the league, picking up three wins and two draws from five outings.

They have picked up clean sheets in the last three, but two of those fixtures were against teams in the bottom four in St Pauli and Holstein Keil, who are among the lowest scorers in the division.

Indeed, the other three away trips for the club this season have resulted in both teams netting, as have half of their dozen Bundesliga games, largely down to Mainz hitting the target in nine of those matches.

I predict that both teams will score in this one, with a 1-1 draw my correct score prediction.
