Wolverhampton to Win

Reason for tip

Brentford are slipping into relegation trouble after five straight away Premier League defeats and look to be up against it at Molineux, where Wolves have lost just once in their last nine league matches. Take Gary O’neil’s side to claim the three points.

Wolverhampton 2-1

Reason for tip

Wolves have claimed 2-1 home wins over Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea this season and, with eight of their last 11 Molineux matches having featured at least three goals, another home victory by a similar scoreline could be on the cards.

Matheus Cunha To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Matheus Cunha’s confidence will be sky high after his hat-trick in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Chelsea and he will be determined to play well now Hwang Hee-Chan is back from the Asian Cup, so expect the Brazilian to find the net.

Wolverhampton vs Brentford Predictions

  • Wolves have lost one of their last six matches
  • Brentford have won just one of their last nine games
  • Eight of Wolves’ last 11 league home matches have featured at least three goals

Brentford have plenty of issues

A slump in form has let Brentford nervously looking over their shoulders in the race to avoid the drop into the Championship and their predicament could get a little more perilous if they suffer another loss at Wolves.

The Bees have Ivan Toney back from his lengthy suspension and the striker has already been back in the goals, but it it their away results that will be of the greatest concern to manager Thomas Frank as they have lost on the last five occasions that they have been on the road.

Defensive issues are also pressing with 15 goals conceded in their last five league outings and that includes a 4-1 home defeat against Wolves on December 27.

The Bees have conceded at least twice in their last six league games and it looks likely that Wolves will take advantage, so it is a surprise to see the home side available at odds-against.

Wolves have shown their pedigree at home

Home manager Gary O’Neil looks to have got the recipe right as his team have been beaten just one in the last six matches.

An eight-match unbeaten home run, which included victories over Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea, was ended by Kobbie Mainoo’s last-gasp winner for Manchester United in a 4-3 Molineux thriller last week, but O’Neil’s side had put in a plucky effort and bounced straight back with Sunday’s 4-2 win at Chelsea.

There tends to be a few goals in Wolves matches with all but three of their last 11 home league outings producing at least three goals and we could witness a repeat of the 2-1 success they chalked up on each of those three illustrious recent victories.

Cunha is in great form

Wolves could welcome back Hee-chan Hwang following South Korea’s surprise defeat to Jordan in the Asian Cup semi-finals, but he will do well to displace Matheus Cunha, who looks a solid selection for an anytime-goalscorer bet.

The Brazilian was the star of the show when he scored a hat-trick in Sunday’s win at Stamford Bridge and that took his tally to six goals in his last seven league, so he will be keen to ensure he is still prominent in O’Neil’s plans even though Hwang is back in town.

Expect Cunha to play another prominent role – he netted from the penalty spot in the extra-time FA Cup win over the Bees last month.
