Draw 1-1 @ 6/1

Reason For Wolverhampton vs Leicester City Predictions

  • Wolves won just one of their last eight matches before the winter break.
  • Wanderers have conceded an average of 1.4 goals per Premier League home game this season.
  • Leicester and Wolves shared the points when they met earlier this campaign.
  • Both teams scored in 10 of Wolves’ 12 Premier League home fixtures this term.

Wanderers aiming to shake off winter cobwebs

Having won just one of their eight games in the lead up to the mid-season hiatus, the Premier League’s first-ever winter break came at just about the perfect time for Wolves.

The poor run, which was Wanderers’ worst spell of the season to date by some distance, saw Wolves tumble all the way down to ninth place in the Premier League, while their quest for FA Cup glory also came to an end after a couple of turgid FA Cup Third Round battles with Manchester United.

Wolves met United three times in total in January when you include the clubs’ league tussle and Wanderers failed to register on each occasion. However, that hat-trick of final-third failures was an extremely unusual occurrence for a Wolves side that have generally been consistent and efficient goalscorers this season.

Wolves rarely fail to score

With Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore their star performers, Wolves carry plenty of attacking bite into most games, as evidenced by their record of scoring in 25 of their last 29 fixtures in all competitions.

At Molineux, only Man Utd and Sporting Braga have kept Wolves off the scoresheet this term in 19 matches there since the season began. Wanderers have managed to notch in 100% of the Premier League games they’ve contested on their own patch during the same period.

Wolves should, then, be expected to register again on Friday against a Leicester City team that have seen their usually lofty defensive standards slip since Christmas; though Wanderers’ chances of keeping the Foxes out at the other end look slim.

Both teams to register?

Nuno Espirito Santo’s charges are shipping 1.4 goals per 90 minutes at home in the Premier League this season and Wolves have  kept their visitors out just twice in 12 attempts overall at Molineux since August. With Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes in tow, Leicester have more than enough attacking weapons in their armoury to score on Friday, though City’s return of one clean sheet from their last seven games points to a defensive regression Wolves can capitalise on.

With the aforementioned factors considered, we think the both teams to score market holds plenty of value for Friday’s televised contest, while our correct score prediction forecasts a 1-1 draw. Like his Wanderers counterpart, Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers would have welcomed the winter break with open arms, having watched his team win just twice in seven games.

Both managers will be desperate to avoid defeat when their respective top-flight campaigns resume this week. Wolves and Leicester looked well-matched when they played out a 0-0 draw at the King Power Stadium in August and we’re tipping them to share the spoils again in Friday’s rematch.
