Wolverhampton vs Southampton Predictions
- Wolves are winless in their last 12 league games
- Southampton have won three of their last four matches
- Wolves lost nine times at home last season
- The hosts have only scored twice in five games this season
Wolves continue winless run
Wolves stretched their winless run to 12 matches in midweek, somehow drawing 0-0 at a Bournemouth side who had lost their previous three games 16-0. Their run is the longest ongoing run of any side currently in the top-flight, while they’ve scored just twice this season.
Wolves look incredibly blunt up front, with new signing Sasa Kalajdzic the man they are hoping can turn their form around. However, he scored only six goals for Stuttgart last season, so their turnaround might be a little way off just yet.
Saints on the up
The visitors come into this game having really hit their stride of late, winning three of their last four games. Southampton beat Chelsea 2-1 in midweek, so they should head into this clash full of confidence.
The Saints have one thing going for them, they’ve got an impressive scoring record in the league. They’ve found the net in four of their five games this term, having struck in 76% of their matches last season. The Saints have scored in 10 of their last 13 away trips, so back them to cause problems here.
Last term the Saints frequently got out in front before blowing the lead. However, this term they’ve claimed more points from behind this season than any other side (7).
Wolves to slip up again
It’s hard to see the hosts just getting over their issues this weekend, while they’ve been beaten seven times in their 12-game winless streak. Saints head into this trip in form, so they look like good value at over 2/1 to take the points on Saturday.
Saints haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 16 matches on the road in the league, so Wolves should at least get a goal in front of their home support. However, the hosts have scored first before going on to drop points twice this season, so Southampton look good for a 2-1 victory.
