      Tip Reasoning

Despite losing, Yeovil can be relatively proud of their opening day display.

They lost 1-0 away to Bury, conceding a last minute goal against a side recently relegated from League One. In addition, the team had two men sent off in the second half, meaning that for the last half an hour, they were one, then two, men short. The team had chances to equalise as well, as striker Francis Zoko almost grabbed one back with a header. To only lose 1-0 in those circumstances, against a side expected to win, will give encouragement to the manager.

Indeed, Yeovil are a side predicted to struggle in the league this year, as they finished 19th in the league last year. With one of the smallest budgets in the league and not many quality players wanting to live in Devon whilst playing. Although, the team recently signed Middlesbrough midfielder Alex Pattison and Birmingham winger Wes McDonald, two young players with potential that should grow into the team and make a real contribution.

However, it will no doubt be another season of struggle for Yeovil, but if they show the courage and determination they showed against Bury, they will be very competitive.

In contrast, after a promising season which just fell short, Mansfield started League Two in storming fashion, seeing of a talented Newport side 3-0 at home.

The team finished one place outside the play-off places after a season which faded after manager Steve Evans left to join Peterborough. Under David Flitcroft, the team will be expected to get that one place higher and challenge for promotion.

They certainly showed their credentials against Newport. The team had more of the possession and shots on target, whilst a clean sheet shows a well-rounded performance from everyone in the team. This will give the club a huge confidence boost that they can make a sustained promotion run this season.

The team certainly have the talent within the team. Up front, veteran Craig Davies paired with promising youngster Tyler Walker, who scored his first goal for the club on Saturday. Whilst Davies is proven at this level and higher, Walker represents real potential and could come to life in this division. In addition, Otis Khan is another player who caught the eye, moving from their opponents today in the summer after he scored 18 goals in 87 games for them. He put two away in the game on Saturday and could prosper this season as well.

It could be a very good season for Mansfield, however there is a long way to go, so a concrete promotion push has not been established just yet.

Indeed, because of how impressive they looked in their opening game, we think Mansfield will make it back-to-back wins against Yeovil. They seem to be a level above this team and are packed with quality. However, as Yeovil displayed on Saturday, they will be incredibly tough to break down, and could nick a goal on the counter against a team, especially if they keep 11 men on the pitch.

Hence, whilst we think a “Mansfield to Win & BTTS” could be a winner, a 2-1 score-line could also represent how the game could get tight and scrappy at times.
