FC Utrecht to show class in Bosnia

A place in the Europa League League Phase is up for grabs as Zrinjski Mostar welcome FC Utrecht to Bosnia for what should be a lively first leg on Thursday.

Zrinjski came through the previous round by beating Icelandic side Breiðablik 3-2 on aggregate, while FC Utrecht comfortably progressed with a 3-2 win over Servette. This represents a step up in quality for the Bosnian side, with the Netherlands ranked 6th in the UEFA coefficient, 31 places above Bosnia. However, when the two sides met in 2019, it was Zrinjski who came out on top with a 3-2 aggregate win.

This is a new-look FC Utrecht side, though, who enjoyed their best league campaign since 2017 last season and are looking to continue their European journey.

The Dutch side are growing in confidence with each round, having impressed in recent wins over Sheriff and Servette. They’ve been clinical in front of goal and have shown they can get results on the road, winning both of their away legs and scoring three goals in each. They should come out on top here, and a narrow away win looks within reach for the Dutch visitors. If they take their chances, they could return home with one foot in the next round.
