Real Madrid to Win

Reason for tip

Atletico Madrid’s stuttering start to the season has seen them win just two of their first seven matches in all competitions and that record is unlikely to improve when rivals Real visit the Metropolitano on Saturday. Los Blancos are leading the way in La Liga after securing their sixth straight win on Tuesday and should prove too strong.

Real Madrid 3-1

Reason for tip

While winning games has been an issue for Atletico, scoring goals hasn’t. They have found the net in all seven of their games and should do so in defeat against Real. However, the visitors should still land a comfortable victory thanks to the return of Jude Bellingham further bolstering an already frightening attack.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid Predictions

  • Atletico Madrid have just two of their seven matches in all competitions this term
  • Their rivals Real, however, have won all seven of their matches
  • Both teams to score has been a winning bet in eight of this pair’s last ten combined games

Rampant Real look too strong for their rivals

La Liga’s first midweek round of fixtures took place between Tuesday and Thursday but that was simply the starter for Saturday’s juicy main course – the first Madrid derby of the season.

The bitter rivals will come into the fixture in contrasting form, with Real leading the way with a perfect record and Atletico struggling in midtable.

Atleti opened with a 2-1 loss at Espanyol and have never really recovered, with a 2-0 win over Villarreal the sole positive result among a sea of 1-1 draws prior to their narrow victory over Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday.

Those stalemates came against Elche, Alaves and Mallorca, too, so it is hardly the perfect preparation for a visit from their rivals, who were boosted by the returns of Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga on Saturday.

Ailing Atleti set to be outclassed

Welcoming back the pair was simply the gloss on another smooth-sailing victory for Los Blancos, who then went on to rout Levante 4-1, and a record of 14 goals scored and just three conceded shows just how brilliantly they’ve responded to Xabi Alonso’s fresh ideas.

The worry for Real fans will be that they haven’t won at the Metropolitano since 2022 but to say Los Blancos look like a completely different side under Alonso would be an understatement.

He has changed plenty, from personnel to the formation to the style of play, and is reaping the rewards as, somewhat surprisingly, the last time Real won their opening five games of a La Liga season came in the 2009-10 campaign – Raul was still at the club in that season, to give some perspective of how long ago that was.

This is a new iteration of the Spanish giants and they can assert their growing dominance with a win over their rivals on Saturday.
