It will feel like a missed opportunity for Hammers fans, who looked as though they might prioritise cup competitions given their comfortable position in the league.

That defeat will not go down well with West Ham fans but looking at the bigger picture, it has been a decent couple of months for Moyes’s men.

West Ham can go into most of their games with little to lose right now, whereas the pressure is on at United, who seem to be in a downward spiral in all competitions.

One player who could make their mark for West Ham is Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus failed to make an impact against Liverpool last time out but he scored two first-half goals in the recent win over Wolves, taking his league tally to five.
