Get 50/1 for a card in Newcastle vs Liverpool + 39/1 tip!

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.
The first Super Sunday of the season is headlined by Newcastle’s clash with Liverpool, which marks Alexander Isak’s return to Tyneside.
We’ve got a card tip in our 39/1 tip, but Paddy Power are offering new customers a massive 50/1 for a card to be shown in what is expected to be a fiery affair.
Dominik Szoboszlai to score
Szoboszlai should be key for Liverpool after shining last season, with the Hungarian scoring 13 times across all competitions. Only Hugo Ekitike scored more goals for the Reds. He was on target against Sunderland in preseason, and he should provide more attacking threat from midfield this term.
Harvey Barnes 1+ shots on target including woodwork
Barnes scored seven Premier League goals last season, and his tally of 21 shots on target was only behind Bruno Guimaraes. With Anthony Gordon departing for Barcelona, Barnes should become a much more important figure for a Newcastle squad that is much less experienced than last season.
Barnes has averaged a shot on target per 90 minutes across his three seasons with the Magpies. Ahead of a campaign where his influence is expected to grow, back him for at least one effort on target in this clash.
Virgil van Dijk to be fouled 1+ times
Anthony Gordon was sent off for a rash challenge on van Dijk in this fixture a little under a year ago, and the Dutchman could face another battle.
Matthias Jaissle is expected to introduce an intense pressing style with Newcastle, which should see van Dijk come under pressure. He was fouled 18 times in the league last term, so back him to draw at least one foul.
Jacob Ramsey to be carded
Newcastle’s midfield trio of Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton were cautioned a combined 20 times in the league last season. With two of that trio leaving the club this summer, and Joelinton carrying an injury, Ramsey steps into the starting lineup with plenty of defensive responsibility.
The former Aston Villa man was booked five times last season in the league, behind only Joelinton and Guimaraes for Newcastle. He averaged a foul per 90 minutes, and Jaissle turning the intensity up to 11 could see Ramsey’s card tally increase this season. He was booked in the meeting with Liverpool in January, and he could have his name taken again.
