The big Premier League game of the weekend comes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as champions Manchester City roll into town. With the tug-of-war over Harry Kane in full flow, there’s no extra edge needed for this big opening weekend showdown.

Tottenham’s preparations for this clash have been damaged by Man City’s chase of Harry Kane, with the England captain not expected to feature against his possible future club. Spurs are obviously a weaker side without Kane but even with him they aren’t a patch on Man City. The Citizens won 11 of their final 12 Premier League games last term so City to win is the first of our five selections.
City aren’t at full strength themselves, but their brilliant array of attacking options covers for that. Riyad Mahrez is increasing his influence at the Etihad year-by-year and last season he was fantastic, popping up in big games to score crucial goals. With five strikes in his last seven for club and country, back Mahrez to score.
Kevin De Bruyne is among those missing for Man City, but this term they aren’t going to be as lost without their creator-in-chief. Jack Grealish was one of the few to rival De Bruyne’s creativity last term and the £100million man should step up to replace the Belgian. We see Grealish to make an assist as great value in his league debut for City.
Tottenham aren’t just missing Kane in this clash, with Gareth Bale heading back to Madrid. The Welshman chipped in with plenty of shots for Spurs last season, only Kane averaged more per game in the league. With those two gone – among with Erik Lamela – Spurs are lacking players who will take shots. Given that, expect Son Heung-Min to lead on the shot front. Son to take at least three shots is a great value fourth leg.
Finally, Spurs are likely to struggle to deal with City’s midfield on Sunday. That could spell trouble for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who was booked nine times for Spurs last term. The midfielder led the way in terms of fouls for Spurs last term, so Hojbjerg to be booked is our final tip.
