O’Sullivan 6-1 Simmonds
The defending champion was a huge favourite here with Simmonds being available at a whopping 66/1 ! and surprisingly it was the underdog who won the opening frame. O’Sullivan soon got to grips with the task in hand, equalled up the match and then got into the lead after a close third frame. It was one way traffic from here on out as the champ closed out the match taking the next four frames with breaks of 97, 118, 112 & 77.
O’Sullivan 6-5 Doherty
A classic dual in the nineties, however Doherty has not beaten O’Sullivan since 2003 and was not expected to offer much threat. This would be the forth time they have played each other in the UK and it served up a titanic tussle. Doherty came out like a man on a mission with breaks of 66, 53, 76, 77 & 71 which was good enough to get a 4-1 lead. The momentum shifted in “The Rocket’s” favour taking the next four frames with breaks of 75, 76 & 65 to lead 5-4. Credit to Doherty as he forced a deciding frame but O’Sullivan was not to be denied and a 58 break in the last frame was enough.

In their only previous meeting O’Sullivan cruised to victory last month in the Northern Ireland Open and this was a case of repeat as Yuelong looked a beaten man right from the start. O’ Sullivan once again took control with breaks of 66, 60, 68, 89 & 69 to take the match without much fight as Yuelong was restricted to just 80 points in total.

What promised to be a exciting attacking encounter failed to meet expectations here as this turned into another one-sided match despite Lisowski taking the lead. O’Sullivan replied with a 88 break and took the next two frames to lead 3-1 at the interval. He lived up to his nickname quickly dispatching Lisowski by winning the next three frames aided by breaks of 118, 112 & 68.
O’Sullivan 6-1 O’Donnell
This was the first meeting between the two but it did not take O’Sullivan long to stamp his class on the match with a 102 break. O’Donnell did manage to level the scores by winning the next frame but like the last round it was the six time champion who got 3-1 up at the interval with the highlight being a 79 break in frame 3. The match followed round 4 exactly as O’Sullivan closed it out taking the next three with contributions of 81 & 106 to book his place in the semi-final.

In their five previous meetings Ford’s only win had come in a one frame Snooker Shoot-Out match. With a similar pattern to most of the tournament O’Sullivan got off to a slow start loosing the first frame, only to hit back immediately with a 122 break. As was the case against Lisowski & O’Donnell “The Rocket” went on the win the next five frames in a row. Despite some scrappy frames he managed to keep his focus and hit breaks of 71 & 51 on his way to the final.

Mark Allen impressively battled his way to the final wrapping up our each-way tip with wins over Eltahhan, McLeod, Vafaei, N.Robertson, Maguire & Bingham. He also took a close first frame in the final but once again a 101 break from O’Sullivan rapidly levelled the score. The pair could not be separated at the interval as breaks of 74 from Allen and 85 from O’Sullivan made the score 2-2. The resumption in play seen “The Rocket” seize the initiative winning five frames in a row with breaks of 54, 66, 57 & 65. Allen showed some spirit to respond with breaks of 56 & 105 to win the next two and reduce the deficit to 7-4.
