The Champions League returned with a bang on Tuesday night as an incredible 35 goals were scored across the eight group stage fixtures, averaging a hefty 4.4 goals per game, but that wasn’t the only interesting feature of last night’s action.

In fact, all eight of the bookmakers’ favourites won their respective games! If you were fortunate enough to have backed those eight favourites on bet365 you would’ve been looking at a hefty 90/1 winner to get your week underway.

Tuesday’s Champions League results:

  • Club Brugge 1 – 5 Manchester City
  • Besiktas 1 – 4 Sporting Lisbon
  • PSG 3 – 2 RB Leipzig
  • Atletico Madrid 2 – 3 Liverpool
  • Porto 1 – 0 AC Milan
  • Ajax 4 – 0 Borussia Dortmund
  • Shakhtar 0 – 5 Real Madrid
  • Inter Milan 3 – 1 Sheriff

It all kicked off with a couple of early fixtures that saw Manchester City and Sporting Lisbon demolish Club Brugge and Besiktas respectively before a swathe of 8pm clashes got underway.

Ajax’s 4-0 thrashing of Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid’s five-goal haul in Ukraine put those ties to bed fairly early, Inter Milan were fairly comfortable against underdogs Sheriff and a single goal was enough to separate Porto and AC Milan.

The real drama came in the two standout games of the night, however. Liverpool took an two-goal lead early on but were pegged back by Antoine Griezmann before half-time. The hero turned villain in Madrid as Griezmann saw sent off and 20 minutes later Mohamed Salah scored yet another goal to win the game for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Over in Paris, favourites PSG took the lead through Kylian Mbappe but RB Leipzig found another gear and led the game 2-1 heading into the final 30 minutes. Then, Lionel Messi stepped up, equalising in the 67th minute before winning the game with an audacious panenka with 15 minutes remaining.
