The betting for the men’s French Open has a different look to it this season after Rafael Nadal confirmed that he won’t be participating at Roland Garros for the first time since he won on Paris debut in 2005.

Instead, it’s odds-on that there will be a new name on the trophy with Carlos Alcaraz seen as the most likely man to inherit the King of Clay’s crown.

The women’s event revolves around the health of Iga Swiatek and while the world number one is the one to beat, the thigh injury she sustained in Rome is a big concern.

All the tips below, including our huge 356/1 eachway double, are priced up with bet365, where new customers can sign up below to get up to £30 in free bets!

French Open men’s outright winner predictions

Stefanos Tsitsipas each-way at 16/1

Spain’s rising star Alcaraz is expected to dominate in the post-big three era but, for now, he has a bit to prove at Roland Garros and looks a touch short in an event which is filled with dangers.

Chief among them is Novak Djokovic, who will aim to reach 23 Grand Slams over the next fortnight in Paris, but the Serb has not been at his best on European clay and has been dealing with an elbow injury.

Holger Rune and Jannik Sinner possess Grand Slam-winning potential as well but forgotten man Stefanos Tsitsipas looks the value option having reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open last week.

The Greek blew a two-set lead against Novak Djokovic in the 2021 French Open final and pushed the Serb all the way in the semi-finals in the previous season, both results which suggest he has the ability to go all the way.

He’s flying under the radar despite posting consistently solid clay-court results this season, reaching the final in Barcelona and looking back to his best before bumping into an inspired Daniil Medvedev in Rome.

The draw could have been kinder, with Tsitispas on course to meet Alcaraz and Djokovic before the final, but that is reflected in double-figure odds and he’s not without hope of claiming a first Grand Slam title.

French Open women’s outright winner predictions

Jelena Ostapenko each-way at 20/1

Iga Swiatek is the odds-on favourite to retain the women’s French Open singles title but the two-time champion returns to Roland Garros under a cloud after a thigh injury forced her to retire in Rome.

Elena Rybakina, who was going toe-to-toe with Swiatek when the Pole picked up the injury, is housed in her side of the draw and will be confident should they meet again.

The bottom half of the draw looks easier, and while Aryna Sabalenka is the favourite to reach the final, the Belarusian is not particularly suited to conditions in Paris and she has to be taken on.

Jelena Ostapenko caused a shock when winning the French Open in 2017 but the big-hitting Latvian is a much more fancied runner this time having reached the semi-finals in Rome.

She remains inconsistent but she has the weapons to trouble any player on the WTA Tour and there’s every chance she makes an impact at the scene of her greatest triumph.
