Ligue 1 2026/27 outright predictions with 12/1, 14/1 & 25/1 selections

Before becoming a Sports Journalist for Free Super Tips, Aaron spent three years studying Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland while taking in the Black Cats' 'glory years' under Martin O'Neill. Now back in Northern Ireland he turns niche stats into predictions for FST, while he's one of the few people on this island who is equally comfortable at Windsor Park and the Aviva.
While Lens gave them a brief scare, PSG ultimately eased to the Ligue 1 title last term while saving their key players for their Champions League campaign.
The champions are as short as 1/8 for the title this season, and there’s little hope of a true challenger emerging from the chasing pack.
However, the gulf between PSG and the rest, along with their increasing focus on Europe, has created a volatile situation behind them. That could pay off in the outright markets, and I’ve picked out three big-priced outsiders at 12/1, 14/1 and 25/1.
Ligue 1 outright predictions
Rennes to win without PSG at 12/1
Lens were the surprise package of last season, but they’ve lost their manager and a host of key players. Behind them, four sides were split by two points in a tight race for the top four places.
Rennes finished sixth, but the club has taken strides forward while others have suffered losses.
The departure of 20-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool has given Rennes money to spend. They replaced him with Englishman Charlie Cresswell, who joins on loan from Toulouse for a little over £2million, with a fee agreed for a permanent deal next summer.
They’ve poached Adrien Thomasson from Lens, along with a string of other signings to supplement a solid squad under proven Ligue 1 coach Franck Haise.
The club boast last season’s top scorer, Esteban Lepaul, and they’ve added Eliezer Mayenda and Issa Soumare in support of him.
With many clubs struggling in Ligue 1 due to their lack of a TV deal, Rennes have the resources to capitalise and emerge as the best of the rest.
Strasbourg to finish in the top three at 14/1
Chelsea’s sister side Strasbourg endured a disappointing campaign last season, missing out on Europe entirely and falling short in the Conference League. BlueCo’s decision to poach Liam Rosenior from themselves played a part in that, as did a serious injury to top-scorer Joaquin Panichelli in March.
For all the chaos that the new ownership has brought, they’ve got plenty of resources. At a time when Monaco, Marseille, Lens, and Lyon have all cashed in on key figures, Strasbourg continue to spend.
The club can guarantee on loan additions from Chelsea. Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen could be a brilliant addition, given the success he had at Villarreal before moving to London.
Strasbourg have rolled the dice on Gio Reyna, while their young group has another year of experience under their belts. Manager Hugo Oliveira arrives after leading Famalicao to fifth in Portugal last season, and he looks like a steady appointment that suits the club’s transfer approach.
They’ve built a balanced squad, and it’s hard to see the club keeping their powder dry in the final couple of weeks. Their lack of European football could be a benefit over the course of the year, and they’re a tempting 14/1 for a top three finish at a time when many of the traditional powerhouses look vulnerable.
Lassine Sinayoko to be top goalscorer at 25/1
Despite his rough spell at Chelsea, Rosenior has landed back at an upwardly mobile French side, after being appointed the new boss of Paris FC this summer.
The club have the highest net spend and total transfer outlay of any Ligue 1 club this summer. They spent big after promotion last summer, and now the target is Europe.
While there are limited markets to get behind Paris FC, their new signing Lassine Sinayoko looks like a great outside option in the scoring stakes.
Rosenior’s Strasbourg side created a lot of chances, and his new side have spent over £46million on a new midfield. Pablo Pagis joins from FC Lorient and Luca Koleosho has been signed from Burnley, and the two wingers should provide good service for Sinayoko.
The striker scored three times for Mali at the last Africa Cup of Nations, while he netted 12 goals for Auxerre in Ligue 1 last season. That lined up almost perfectly with his Expected Goals tally, and he can expect more chances in Rosenior’s ambitious side.
Given that only two PSG players hit double figures last season, with Bradley Barcola scoring a team-high 11 Ligue 1 goals, it’s worth avoiding the favourites in this market and targeting a player that should feature every week.
