Super Bowl LVIII is just days away and the bets are starting to flow in for as Las Vegas prepares to welcome the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.
We’ve already covered our main Super Bowl LVIII predictions and a host of player and game prop bets, but one of the things that makes the Super Bowl so special is the range of novelty prop bets on offer to punters.
Bettors can stake money on everything from the coin toss at the beginning to the colour of the gatorade thrown over the winning coach at the end.
It’s all just a bit of fun, but here are some trends you can think of when looking at these bets.
Super Bowl LVIII National Anthem predictions – Over 1:31 at 1/1 with Skybet
Last year’s Super Bowl national anthem came in at just over two minutes and the overs last landed in four of the last five Super Bowls, including each of the last three.
Importantly, given the 1:31 line, we have only seen a national anthem under 1:30 once and that was 26 years ago.
Rob McEntire, this year’s national anthem singer, did put in a performance at an NFL game in 1999 that lasted exactly 1:30 but the country singer is 25 years older now and may not have the speed she once did. Back the overs to continue its domination.
Super Bowl LVIII Gatorade Shower predictions – Orange at 4/1 with bet365
The traditional Gatorade shower over the winning coach was won by purple punters last year and I’m backing another upset in LVIII.
Red leads the markets due to it being the colour scheme for both the Chiefs and the 49ers, but history shows that the colours rarely match, with only four Gatorade showers since 2001 matching the winning team’s colour scheme.
Orange has been dumped a leading five times since the start of the 2012 NFL season and was the colour of choice when the Chiefs beat the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, so that’s my leading pick.
Super Bowl LVIII Coin Toss predictions – Heads at 1/1 with bet365
This is, quite obviously, a coin flip but bet365 are offering even money on it which makes it a fun little bet to get on board with.
Tails currently leads Heads 29-28 in the Super Bowl and has dominated recently, with tails winning the flip in seven of the last ten instalments.
It’s high time that Heads caught up and tied, the scores, then.
