Baltimore Ravens to win Super Bowl LVIII at 16/5

The race to win the Super Bowl looks more open than it has been for several seasons this year but it’s hard to deny that the top seeds in each conference deserve to be there.

Favourites the San Francisco 49ers have been a powerhouse in the NFC for most of the campaign, and bagged the number one seed despite a three-game rough patch in October when they lost to the Browns, Vikings and Bengals in consecutive weeks.

They won seven of their next eight games after their bye week, but the loss was a humbling 33-19 home defeat by the Baltimore Ravens, and that makes the AFC top seeds the best value bet for the Super Bowl heading into the playoffs.

The Ravens went 13-4 despite playing in a high-quality AFC North division which ended with all four teams having winning records. They led inside the final two minutes of their first three losses of the year and their only other defeat came when they fielded their reserves in Week 18.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson is expected to be named the league MVP and it will take a good team to lower their colours in the playoffs.

LA Rams each-way at 40/1

For a big-value outsider, consider the Los Angeles Rams. The champions of two seasons ago have rebuilt their roster faster than expected and won seven of their last eight games this season, with the only defeat coming in overtime to the Ravens.

They have a tricky first test on the road at Detroit but have a shrewd head coach in Sean McVay and have been improving all year.

Of the other top contenders, defending champions the Chiefs do not look as dynamic as usual this year, Buffalo finished the year well but can be inconsistent and the Dolphins have been hit by costly injuries, making the Browns the most interesting outsiders. They face a tough path as the fifth seeds but did record a victory against their divisional rivals the Ravens this season.

The Cowboys are strong contenders in the NFC but can turn in a shocking performance occasionally, although they are 8-0 at home this season. The Eagles faded badly after starting the year at 10-1 and the Lions can also beat most teams on their day but they start out with that tricky home game against the Rams.
