UFC 283 predictions: Teixeira vs Hill tips & 31/1 acca

UFC returns to Brazil for the first time since 2020 this weekend as home hopeful Glover Teixeira takes on Jamahal Hill in the headline event of an intriguing UFC 283 card.

We’ve called on MMA expert Bobbie Jackson and he’s got an 8/5 tip for the main event as well as a 31/1 accumulator covering the undercard.

UFC 283 Main Event prediction

Glover Teixeira to win by KO, TKO, submission or DQ vs Jamahal Hill

The light heavyweight division is currently without a champion after Jiri Prochazka vacated his belt to undergo surgery on a serious shoulder injury.

Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev were handed the chance to compete for the belt at UFC 282 but they fought to a draw so it still remains vacant.

Next up to get a shot are former champion Glover Teixeira, ranked #2, and #7 Jamahal Hill.

Teixeira, aged 43, isn’t likely to get another chance to regain the belt and certainly won’t have another opportunity to compete for the gold on home soil in Brazil.

Hill, meanwhile, has earned his first UFC title bout after winning three in a row, although there is a feeling this might have arrived too soon for Sweet Dreams.

There’s no question that this is a major clash of styles with Teixeira relying heavily on his ground game and submission, while Hill is a knockout specialist.

Brazil’s Teixeira is certainly the more well-rounded of the pair and can still stand and trade, but he’s certain to be looking for the takedown as he attempts to put Hill outside of his comfort zone.

It’s almost inevitable that this fight ends up on the canvas at some point and that’s when the gulf in experience and skill will be exposed.

Teixeira should be able to get to work reasonably comfortably and victory by KO, TKO or submission looks the value bet.

Where to watch UFC 282 & what time does it start?

UK coverage of the event, which takes place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will begin at 1am on Sunday, 22nd January with the prelim bouts before the main card gets going at around 3am.

UFC 283 Accumulator Tip

Brandon Moreno to win vs Deiveson Figueiredo

Flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and interim title-holder Brandon Moreno make history in this quadrilogy contest in the co-main.

They fought to a draw in their first meeting before Moreno won the rematch by submission and Figueiredo earned revenge in the trilogy courtesy of a decision.

Figueiredo hasn’t fought since due to injury but Moreno returned to winning ways with a victory over Kai Kara-France.

As previous bouts between the pair have shown, there’s little to pick between them but Figueiredo’s 12 months of inactivity could hand Moreno the edge this time.

Gilbert Burns to win by KO, TKO, submission or DQ vs Neil Magny

Gilbert Burns and Neil Magny are both looking to place themselves in the conversation for a shot at the welterweight title in 2023.

Burns, ranked #5, has lost two of his last three fights but those defeats have come against top-tier rivals; going down to Kamaru Usman in a title bout and losing to Khamzat Chimaev via decision.

Magny, who is #12 in the rankings, has won three of his last four trips to the octagon but he’s yet to meet someone at Burns’ level and looks set to come up short.

Paul Craig to win by KO, TKO, submission or DQ vs Johnny Walker

Paul Craig was on the cusp of securing a shot at the light heavyweight title, having gone unbeaten in seven, before suffering a loss to Volkan Oezdemir at UFC London in July.

The Scot is at a crossroads in his career, knowing victory against Johnny Walker puts him firmly back in the mix.

Walker is an exciting and unpredictable competitor but his recent record makes it hard to have too much faith, losing four of his last six bouts.

Craig has only gone the distance twice in his 22-fight career, winning 13 by submission, and a victory within three rounds looks highly likely.
