1860 Munich vs Nurnberg Predictions

1860 Munich continued to push themselves away from the relegation zone with another three points in a crucial 2-1 win at home to fellow strugglers Karlsruher SC last weekend. Munich are now six matches unbeaten at the Allianz Arena (W4 D2), but have difficult opponents in last season’s play-off contenders Nurnberg this Monday.

Nurnberg bounced back from their disappointing start to 2017 (a 2-1 defeat at home to Dynamo Dresden) with four points over their last two fixtures – a thrilling 3-2 win away to fellow mid-table side Heidenheim, followed by a 1-1 draw at home to former league leaders Eintracht Braunschweig last time out. Though Nurnberg are still 6 points behind last season’s 3rd place finish, “the Club” are proving to be one of the most dangerous sides on the road and hold the joint best away record in the Bundesliga 2 (W5 D2 L3).

Based on forms alone, this match seems close to call. However, one market that stands out here is “both teams to score” at 4/6 for the following reasons:

Nurnberg hold the joint best offensive record in the Bundesliga (35 goals scored) and haven’t failed to score in a club-record 41 consecutive matches. What makes this feat more impressive is that Nurnberg have adjusted quickly and continued decent scoring form (6 goals over three matches in 2017) despite selling their top scorer, Guido Burgstaller ( top scorer in the Bundesliga 2 with 14 goals in 16 appearances), to Schalke 04 over the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, after a shaky start to the season, 1860 Munich are also scoring much more fluidly and have only failed to score in one of their last 12 Bundesliga 2 matches. Notably, 1860 are averaging a healthy 1.6 goals per match at the Allianz Arena.

Both 1860’s and Nurnberg’s downfall this season has been in their defense. 1860 have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 matches, which has seen both teams to score land in 83%, while Nurnberg have kept just one clean sheet in their last 10 matches, which has seen both teams to score land in 90%. Hence, there should be some decent value in backing it here.

Regarding a correct score bet, the balance between Munich’s home and Nurnberg’s away form means this match should end deadlocked more often than not. As such, we feel that a 1-1 draw at 5/1 with bet365 seems a reasonable bet here.
