Aberdeen vs Hearts Predictions

Aberdeen finally saw their ailing Scottish Premiership title challenge come to an official end last weekend when they lost to Celtic. Prior to the match they needed to win all of their remaining fixtures and hope that Celtic lost all of theirs, in addition to making up a massive gulf in goal difference.

Three goals within 50 minutes from Celtic put the result and the title beyond doubt, and despite two second half goals Aberdeen couldn’t find the win they desperately needed. They only have themselves to blame too, as they have had more than enough opportunities to catch Celtic throughout the season.

This defeat was their 4th in their last six games, meaning they have dropped 12 points from a possible 18 over the last six weeks or so, coincidentally the exact number of points they are currently behind Celtic.

Aberdeen at least have 2nd place wrapped up, with opponents Hearts sitting in 3rd with a ten point gap between the sides. The visitors also have their position sealed, so this game is all about ending the season strongly and pride.

Hearts are in pretty awful form themselves after their blistering return to the Scottish Premiership. They have only won one of their last seven league matches and have lost four times during this period.

Interestingly, their only win during this poor run of form came at home to Aberdeen at the beginning of April, but it will be a more difficult encounter away from home. Hearts have lost four of their last six on the road and won just two of their last 12.

Aberdeen are, understandably, much better on home turf than they are away, and they come into this match unbeaten since the start of October at the Pittodrie Stadium. Eight of their 12 games since then have ended in victory as well.

The weight of the title race is off Aberdeen’s shoulders now, and although they will be disappointed at missing out they won’t be too devastated. They have known for some time that it would be incredibly difficult to catch Celtic. This, combined with their excellent home form this season and Hearts’ regular defeats on the road, makes odds of 1/1 for an Aberdeen Win look good value to me. I’m backing a 2-1 correct score prediction at 15/2 as well.
