Accrington Stanley vs Doncaster Predictions
Having never played in a higher division that the fourth tier John Coleman’s Accrington Stanley were withing 90 minutes of creating history. They were unable to do it on that occasion as they stuttered to a draw whilst their rivals won and having now lost both Josh Windass and Matt Crooks to Rangers there is a large hole in the squad to fill if Stanley are to challenge the promotion places again this term. Although those two have gone on to top division football north of the border, perhaps the biggest loss to Stanley is tricky right winger Piero Mingoia who signed on a free transfer for Cambridge United. New signing Arron Davies will look to fill the creative void and provide the bullets for top scorer Billy Kee to continue his impressive scoring record whilst Omar Beckles steps up into the Football League to try and ensure Stanley maintain a tight ship in defence.
Darren Ferguson’s Doncaster Rovers will be looking to bounce straight back up following their relegation from League One. Gary McSheffrey and Tommy Rowe both on join on free transfers after playing at the Keepmoat on loan last term and the capture on John Marquis from Milwall could well prove to be the best bit of business done in League Two as Ferguson bids to replace top scorer Andy Williams.
This fixture will represent a very good indication of where both sides are early in the season as both will be expected to challenge at the top. We think Accrington will be hit hard by their high profile exits and we think it will take time for their replacements to settle in. Doncaster have kept a solid spine together and seem to have strengthened in key areas. We think that a Doncaster win at 13/8 with bet365 represents good odds and a 2-1 victory at 9/1 with bet365 looks good value to us.
