Reason For AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester City Predictions

  • Leicester won each of their last two Premier League meetings with Bournemouth.
  • Over 2.5 goals were scored in two of the last three encounters between Bournemouth and Leicester.
  • Both teams scored in three of the last four meetings between Bournemouth and Leicester.
  • Bournemouth lost seven of their last nine Premier League matches.

Time running out for Bournemouth

With three points separating 18th placed Bournemouth from safety and just four matches in which to spark a late revival, the Cherries are fast running out of time to stay afloat.

A dismal run of seven defeats from their last nine Premier League fixtures strongly indicates that Eddie Howe’s men lack both the form and confidence to gather the points they need however, and despite a spirited showing at home to Tottenham in mid-week, Bournemouth’s top-flight stay looks like ending before the month is out.

The Cherries held an uninspiring Spurs outfit to a 0-0 draw at the Vitality stadium on Thursday evening, though one point could have been three had Lady Luck been a little more engaging on the south coast.

Leicester’s top four grip loosening

Leicester secured a point of their own in midweek after a 1-1 comeback draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, thanks to a late effort from a recharged Jamie Vardy.

While a share of the spoils against the Gunners on their own patch is far from a poor outcome in isolation, the result allowed a relentless Manchester United to close to within one point of the Foxes in fourth spot.

With just two victories in 10 Premier League assignments since February, Leicester’s grip on their top four place has been loosening by the week, and another poor result this weekend would set them up for a drop to 5th when Man Utd meet Southampton on Monday evening.

Leicester favourites to triumph

Leicester however, who beat Bournemouth in each of the club’s last two league meetings, will expect to pick up the points they need to keep United at arm’s length on Sunday.

The Cherries run of two draws and seven defeats in nine games is the very definition of relegation worthy form, and the Foxes’ superior quality should eventually tell at the Vitality Stadium.

While Brendan Rodgers has fitness concerns over key duo Ben Chilwell and James Maddison, Leicester should have enough in reserve to force a crucial win this weekend.

City were comfortable winners when the beat Bournemouth 3-1 in the teams’ reverse Premier League fixture in late August last year, though it’s worth noting that that was the third occasion in four encounters where both teams found the net.

We expect a Leicester team, that shipped goals in 80% of their last 10 away matches, to concede again on Sunday, however, with Jamie Vardy’s touch in the final third rediscovered, the Foxes should eventually prevail, making our 2-1 City correct score prediction a viable looking final outcome.

Key Battle: Nathan Ake vs Jamie Vardy

With three goals in this last two games, and his membership to the Premier League’s 100 club confirmed, Jamie Vardy looks back to his electric best after his uncharacteristically long dry spell.

On Sunday, the veteran hitman will be taking aim at a Bournemouth team he notched twice against back in August, though Cherries stalwart Nathan Ake will be out to keep a firmer lid on Vardy in Sunday’s rematch.

Eddie Howe’s team have been leaking plenty of goals since the restart, however, with Ake central, they looked far more solid against Tottenham in mid-week.

Ake will need to be at his influential best again if the Cherries are to secure an unlikely result this weekend.

Bournemouth vs Leicester City team news

Charlie Daniels, Simon Francis and Chris Mepham are all still out for Bournemouth, while Adam Smith and David Brooks are also doubtful having picked up injuries against Spurs.

Harry Wilson and Jack Stacey, who replaced Smith and Brooks on Thursday, are expected to feature from the start this weekend.

Bournemouth predicted line-up: Ramsdale – Stacey, Ake, Kelly, Rico – Gosling, Lerma, Wilson, Stanislas – King, Wilson

Long-term absentees Daniel Amartey and Ricardo Pereira are almost certain to be joined on the sidelines by Ben Chilwell and James Maddison on Sunday.

To adapt to his available personnel, Brendan Rodgers will likely stick the the 3-5-2 formation he deployed against Arsenal at the Emirates in mid-week.

Leicester City predicted line-up: Schmeichel – Bennett, Evans, Soyuncu – Justin, Ndidi, Praet, Barnes – Gray, Perez, Vardy
