Manchester City vs Leeds Predictions
- Manchester City have won 18 of their last 20 home Premier League matches.
- City’s last six league games have featured at least three goals.
- Leeds have lost seven of their last nine league away games.
Citizens firmly in control
Manchester City’s grip of the Premier League title race seems in little danger of slipping and while Arsenal are doing their best to keep up with the pace, the Gunners can expect few favours from Leeds on Saturday.
The Citizens can go four points clear at the top of the table with a win over Leeds, who this week appointed Sam Allardyce s their manager in a desperate attempt to avoid relegation, and it is difficult to envisage anything other than a home win.
A Leeds defence that conceded five times against Crystal Palace and six against Liverpool in the last few weeks have the unenviable task of keeping Erling Haaland in check after the Norwegian beat the Premier League season goalscoring record in their 3-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday.
Admittedly, the Hammers were understrength due to illness in the camp, but the City defence looked completely in control and the Londoners hardly managed to get out of their half, so expect the home side to keep their second successive clean sheet of the week.
Allardyce faces the toughest of openers
New Leeds manager Sam Allardyce could not have been handed a tougher opening game, but there is no time to waste with the team still in deep relegation trouble with just four games to save themselves.
The problem is that they have conceded at least twice in eight of their last nine matches and their away record is as equally woeful, so it is extremely difficult to be optimistic about their chances at the Etihad.
A tally of just one point from their last five games explains why they are in the thick of the relegation battle and have made such a desperate managerial change with only a few games to go.
The problem is that even if Allardyce was able to initiate a quick fix, him doing it against arguably the best team in Europe looks highly unlikely, so we fancy a 3-0 victory to City in this one.
Alvarez can join the party
While Haaland has earned most of the scoring plaudits this season, the City attack is more than a one-man show and Julian Alvarez has slipped seamlessly into the line-up in the last few weeks.
The Argentinian scored a fine goal in the win at Fulham last week and can usually be relied upon to have a couple of shots on target when he gets a decent outing, so we feel he is worth chancing to score at any time in a game where Pep Guardiola’s side can be guaranteed plenty of chances.
