Alaves and Villarreal could serve up a thriller

Alaves are hovering just about the La Liga drop zone ahead of their Friday night fixture with Champions League chasing Villarreal.

Quique Sánchez Flores saw his side slip to a 3-2 defeat to Valencia in his first game in charge as Alaves saw their winless run extended to six games, with four defeats.

Villarreal have been strong on their travels this season and may be able to come away with the points but the better option could be focusing on the goals markets and over 2.5 goals looks a strong option.

Alaves have conceded more than once in five of their last six games but they’ve also scored seven goals themselves over that period. Over 2.5 goals has been a winning bet in three of their last four home games, while Villarreal’s games have been entertaining recently with at least three goals scored in seven of their last eight games.

The Yellow Submarine have a decent haul of 20 points from their 13 away games and have been in good form overall with four wins in their last six. They could edge out Alaves in a thriller here and a 3-2 away win has a chance in the correct score market, as the Basque hosts have scored exactly twice in three of their last six games and Villarreal have scored at least three goals in three of their last six victories – including a 3-1 win in the reverse fixture.

Villarreal forward Georges Mikautadze stands out as a candidate for an anytime effort. The Georgian has three goals in his last six games and two of the strikes have come in his last three appearances away from home.
