Amiens vs Toulouse Predictions
- Toulouse have absolutely been the worst team in Ligue 1 this season with them currently sitting bottom with the most goals conceded and least points won away from home, losing each of their last seven games on the road.
- Amiens are the second worst defence in the league but will be the hosts and they have a very good record at the Stade de la Licorne, losing just two of their last eight there.
- None of the last five clashes between these sides have seen over 2.5 goals and with the teams sitting 19th and 20th, it could be quite the slogging match.
Amiens looking to home support for crucial points
In what is probably the biggest game of the weekend, Amiens will be desperate to come out victorious. They’re going up against a wayward Toulouse side but Amiens themselves have also had their issues and currently deserve to sit third from bottom. Luka Elsner has tried to instil a positive style of play on his team but he is still a very inexperienced coach and this has only left their defence wide open.
Amiens have conceded the second most goals in Ligue 1 this season with a whopping 41 leaked after 21 matches. However, there is some evidence to suggest that they have improved at the back and are going in the right direction. At the end of 2020 Amiens had conceded the fifth most chances in the league, however, since the winter break the Unicorns have actually conceded the 7th least despite playing a game more than most teams.
It is a small sample size but it gets better when you factor in their 0-0 draw in the cup away to 3rd placed Rennes and the 2-0 defeat to Lille in the cup where last year’s Ligue 1 runners-up only started to threaten once Amiens went a man down. There is incremental improvement there, and that could prove pivotal as they face a team in a similarly poor situation.
Amiens will be the home side for this one and it has been at the Stade de la Licorne where they have played their best football this season. The Unicorns have lost just two of their last eight home matches and even though their defence has continued to struggle in these matches with 13 goals conceded, they have also netted 13 times so are absolutely managing to give teams a bit more of a challenge at the Licorne.
New man Zanko yet to leave his mark
Just like Amiens, Toulouse are in dire straits and really need three points. Les Violets recently appointed reserves manager Denis Zanko as head coach to try and clean up the mess that Antoine Kombouaré left but they have yet to enjoy that new manager ‘bounce’. In the two games he has taken charge of they have lost 5-2 at home to 15th place Brest and been battered 3-0 by Lyon.
The Pink City club really didn’t offer much in these two matches, their only two goals being scored from set pieces by centre-back Bafode Diakité, and with them leaking five goals to a team barely above them in the table, there are very worrying signs starting to appear with them currently three points adrift at the bottom of Ligue 1. They have conceded the most goals in Ligue 1 and as you can imagine they have also collected the least points on the road, losing each of their last seven away games, conceding 20 and scoring just four, failing to net in their last three.
A slogging match to come in this basement battle?
Both teams are in horrific situations at the moment but with Amiens set to be the hosts for this one, we’re backing the Unicorns to get the pivotal win. Each of the last five meetings between these sides have bene extremely tetchy affairs with none seeing over 2.5 goals scored and as a result we see this one finishing as a nervy 1-0 win for Amiens.
